Palin's 'Trooper-gate' Cover-up

By Robert Parry

Ripping a page from George W. Bush’s playbook on obstructing investigations, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her senior aides are maneuvering to thwart an abuse-of-power investigation that Palin initially vowed to assist.

There have been reports that the former brother-in-law tasered his step-son, was found to be drinking on the job, made death threats against his former wife, the Governor and her family. My question is why was this person not fired from his job? I certainly do not find it suitable to have a state trooper who abused his step son and also threatened this relatives with death. There is definitely some sort of cover-up here and it is not on the side of the Governor and her family. I want to know why this person was not in jail or in a mental hospital.

I did notice in your article, you made no mention of his using a taser on his step-son, who I think was around 11 at the time. Another cover-up?

I am more interested in knowing why Palin wanted the man FIRED for so-called "threats" to her father and sister. Wouldn't it have made more sense to call the police and have him arrested/ Just firing him from the job would still leave him free to do the family harm if he so chose, especially since Alaska allows its citizens to have guns. So why not have him arrested and locked away until a trial can have him incarcerated for a long period of time and "protect" the family in a legal way?

If the Trooper is indeed guilty of all that Palin claims he has done, then getting him off the streets would seem the most logical thing to do. Her choice in taking the underhanded way of getting the man fired shows the kind of national leader she would be. I believe she would make poor choices and decisions all the way round.

I think that the Obama campaign is handling Palin correctly on this one. If they go after her too hard, the media won't pounce on her you know the way they will after her first inevitable gaffe.

I saw this on the blog of Craig’s List founder, Craig Newmark, yesterday and thought it was worth sharing:

"Hey, this is a good example of genuine grassroots democracy:

ObamaTravel.org is a platform that connects volunteers who want to travel to a swing state with financial sponsors and swing state host families. It’s sort of a political hybrid of craigslist and Team-in-Training - volunteers post profiles and solicit sponsorship from their family and friends. Sponsors can see their donations in action by following the activities of their volunteers.

... and let's remember that "community organizing" is pure grassroots democracy."
