By Mary MacElveen

During the GOP national convention, Republicans were openly hostile towards the news media.

I suggest that those interested in learning a bit more about Palin read an article entitled:
"Alaskans Speak (In a Frightened Whisper):Palin is "Racist, Sexist, Vindictive, And Mean"
by Charley James

Reading this article may give more insight into why Palin will continue to refuse to be interviewed on any of the major news programs where she might be asked some embarrassing questions about her past and her true character.

http://www.laprogressive.com/2008/09/05/alaskans-speak-in-a-frightened-whisper-palin-is-“racist-sexist-vindictive-and-mean”/#more-954

A few snippets:

“So Sambo beat the bitch!”
"This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination."
*********
"But being openly racist is only the tip of the Palin iceberg. According to Alaskans interviewed for this article, she is also vindictive and mean. We’re talking Rove mean and Nixon vindictive.
No wonder the vast sea of white, cheering faces at the Republican Convention went wild for Sarah: They adore the type, it’s in their genetic code. So much for McCain’s pledge of a “high road” campaign; Palin is incapable of being part of one."
********
"On a more practical level, many people in Alaska, and particularly Wasilla, are reluctant to speak or be quoted by name because they’re afraid of her as well as the state Republican Party machine. Apparently, the power elite are as mean as the winters.
“The GOP is kind of like organized crime up here,” an insurance agent in Anchorage who knows the Palin family, explained. “It’s corrupt and arrogant. They’re all rich because they do private sweetheart deals with the oil companies, and they can destroy anyone. And they will, if they have to.”
**********
To an outsider, it would seem hard to do, but an oil-rich town with zero debt on the day she was inaugurated mayor was left saddled with $22 million of debt by the time she moved away to become governor – especially since nothing was spent on things such as improving the city’s infrastructure or building a much-needed sewage treatment plant. So what did Mayor Palin spend the taxpayer’s money on, if not fixing streets and scrubbing sewage?
*********
“She’s a bigot, a racist, and a liar,” is the more blunt assessment of Arnold Gerstheimer who lived in Alaska until two years ago and is now a businessman in Idaho."
**********
“Sambo beat the bitch” may be everyday language up in the bush. Whether it – and the outlook, politics and worldview Palin reflects when she says such things in public – should be part of a presidential campaign is another thing altogether. The comment says as much about McCain as it does about Palin, and it says a lot of things about Americans who overlook such statements (as well as her record) and vote anyway for McCain."

Palin is living in another reality.
It's called we have the MSM in our back pockets. You are in trouble if you ask me questions about my ex-brother-in-law, the state trooper.
You saw how we kicked Amy Goodmans ass, well we will do the same to any other liberal media types who get in our way, HAIL

I have been neutralized by the DNC's dishonest tap of Barack Obama, so I feel my opinion is coming from a fairly unbiased point of view regard Sarah Palin. I am stuggling with my own conscience: can I actually vote for a Republican in November? With that same hypersensitivity to actual truth, my answer is probably no...No to Obama and McCain/Palin.

Like Hillary, Sarah is an attractive female counterpart to an American male pol. Which means she is a politician with all the warts and baggage. They all have a past. Our competitive system of governance precludes too much rational thought; The American way of selecting candidates puts the idealist at a disadvantage. Which candidate passes muster in this current run to the White House?

None. We, as an aggregate, leave the serious considerations to our woeful media to tease out the good, bad and ugly. We enjoy a good old mud fight, admit it. There is so little space between Hollywood gossip and election reportage, it is silly to take any of it seriously. Which is tragic and may be the reason the nation is awash in our usual campaign trivial pursuit. And why the country teeters on meltdown.

Barack Obama, likewise, IMO, has never been fully vetted in the MSM.
The edict was handed down often and early: he is our boy for this game. He is a fresh face and (wink, wink) will go supine, letting us pat his tummy and message his ego while real issues will be settled behind the curtain by power brokers, not young neophytes like brother Obama.

Sarah Palin may not be perfect but she is interesting. I probably won't vote for her and John because I am not taken with either party's offering this year. I took off the rose-colored glasses and suddenly discovered a clearer
world, the image under the gloss.

And it ain't pretty.

Mary Mac, as we used to call her on the old political boards, has unfortunately never matured into her own person and merely spouts talking points you will find on any pro-Obama blog. Those blogs, incidently, will broach no dissent; they will pull your access midphrase if you even sneeze off-script. So much for the Obamanistas' ride on their high horse of democratic principles. Hypocrisy by any name is still antithetical to the process.

But isn't it obvious ? Ms Palin is rehearsing how to ignore Congressional subpoenas in the event she and Mr McCain manage to manoeuvre themselves into the position of US vice president and president, respectively (you do remember the coup d'ètat of December 2000 ?). And since neither position, we are told - despite the example of George Walker Bush - lends itself to on-the-job training, Ms Palin simply wishes to know how (not) to respond when faced with the charges of corruption and misuse of power that are bound to see the light of day should she slip through the cracks in the glass ceiling....

What emerges about this woman, is one very dangerous human being, but one that would work well into the system of the DHS, CIA, NSA etc.
Hitler was very good at attracting these people and using them effectively.
Truth and dissent do not fit into the frame work of thier definition of goverment or democracy. Hence they use catch words like abortion and national security to define themselves. Catch phrases require little intellect for self promotion.

Based on her RNC speech, she's a seasoned player and will stop at nothing on her quest for power.

She interviewed on the Mike Malloy radio show the day before her convention speech and he asked her about it. She played it as proof she was a woman who can "get things done" and one who won't let the bureaucracy get in her way.

Scary stuff! Right out of the Rove play book; turn your crimes into a selling point.

And unfortunately, it seems 90% of American voters are completely clueless and will never hear the facts or if they do, they'll brush them off as partisan gamesmanship.

How McCain can have ANY support, let alone be competitive is beyond reason.

Good luck America! This could be your last chance.

While I completely loathe Palin, and mostly because she is a horrible (monster of a) mother, and think she is a disaster of a pick (from the standpoint of the the needs of the country), she is will do fine in the debate.

As far as the media not covering the republican candidates until she agreees to a womano et womano/mano, this will NEVER happen. The "news" is about dollars, and Palin is helping the networks bring in the advert monies. This is why, from the polling standpopint, the race is still close. The MSM has a vested interest in drawing this thing out. Truth is completely accidental.

Sarah Palin will remain cocooned from meaningful interaction with print and media journalists for the next two months, although I suspect she'll have a carefully controlled Faux News press conference or two during that time period - in order to whack a few softballs over the fence and squelch the growing criticism that she's dodging scrutiny.

Ms. Palin as veep nominee is not (as one wag put it initially right after John McCain's surprize announcement) Dan Quayle with a pony tail. She is Sprio Agnew, carefully scripted and packing a taser.

On a related note, will somebody please tell Barack Obama that he should stop subjecting himself to hostile set up formats like the Christian fundamentalist forum at Saddleback Church, or answering Karl Rove's framing questions when posed by a right wing blowhard propagandist like Bill O'Reilly?

In terms of reaching out across the partisan divide, this goes a bridge and a half too far.

These guys and their followers are out to discredit and destroy anything resembling progressive politics in America. Why facilitate that process by giving them credibility as responsible opinion shapers?

I nearly puked when I read that O'Reilly somehow supposedly got Obama to "finally admit" that George Bush's surge was some sort of a "success." The slippery slope likely to follow up on this piece of needless triangulation will not be pleasant to watch.

I saw this on the blog of Craig’s List founder, Craig Newmark, yesterday and it seemed like such a neat idea that I thought it was worth sharing:

"Hey, this is a good example of genuine grassroots democracy:

ObamaTravel.org is a platform that connects volunteers who want to travel to a swing state with financial sponsors and swing state host families. It’s sort of a political hybrid of craigslist and Team-in-Training - volunteers post profiles and solicit sponsorship from their family and friends. Sponsors can see their donations in action by following the activities of their volunteers.

... and let's remember that "community organizing" is pure grassroots democracy."
