Bush's 'Wonderland' Logic

By Robert Parry
July 2, 2008

The first Guantanamo Bay “enemy combatant” review case to go before a federal appeals court has offered a peek down the rabbit hole of capricious irrationality that underlies George W. Bush’s “war on terror.”

The rabbit-hole analogy follows a three-judge panel comparing the Bush administration’s assertion of “evidence” to the writings of Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

Regarding the snarky "wonderland logic" in which something is repeated thrice, reinforcing false material: it worked for this administration before. Remember when the administration "leaked" information to the New York Times about WBD in Iraq. Remember when VP Cheney went on a Sunday news show citing the New York Times article as "evidence" of truth? We need our news media to be vigilant to to refuse to repeat lies. We need a very skeptical American public to realize we have a worse-than-cynical administration and that there is little between us and the loss of our democracy without this vigilance. Unfortunately, at this point our courts, our media and our Democratic party have not held faith with the constitution, the truth and the American public.
