Unfortunately you are trying to make some sense out of a totally senseless policy kept in place for no legitimate reason. I know for a fact that totally innocent, ordinary Americans are put on the watch list for absolutely no reason. They are not told why. They are not removed. It is a useless intrusion into our Constitutional freedoms and, I'm afraid, one step closer to having all our citizens "show their papers" to travel freely within our country. As long as our government can keep the populace scared they are willing to go along with abominations such as the terrorist watch list. There is no defense for this policy.

My almost 80 year-old father is on the 'list'. He suspected as such and then an agent at the airport confirmed it. He was born in Long Island, New York, is a former Navy pilot and Korean War Veteran. No one will tell him why his name is on the list or whether he has the same name as another on the list. He brings his driver's license, passport and military discharge papers with him when he flies, but he is still singled out for additional scrutiny. It has become so upsetting for him to fly that he now refuses to attend any more of his grandchildren's weddings out of state. In light of the recent attempt to blow up an American Airlines plane over Detroit, this list is clearly not doing the job it is apparently intended to do.
