This article makes a couple of false assumptions that lead to a very misleading claim.

In the first place, Obama promised to escalate occupation forces (mercenaries, contractors, troops etc.) in Afghanistan during his campaign. This is no secret. He has not fallen victim to any "pincer movement", but rather in this rare case, he is fulfulling his promise.

Second, it assumes that he is virtually helpless, as Commander in Chief, to mitigate foreign and imperial policy. This might be true in part, however the article fails to adequately explain why.

I might be overly sensitive here, but this article is yet another who lets Obama off the hook and helps apologize for his imperialist war-mongering policies.
