According to the New York Times the Kandahar operation is already and quietly taking place with the SOP units killing or capturing all those suspected of being Taliban. As of consequence of this the Taliban have gone farther underground, threatening and killing all those cooperating with the Americans and NATO occupiers, as well as with the Afghan government.

A: "We loved the Russians: they built roads and schools and hospitals for us".
I: "Then why did you fight them?"
A: "Because they were here".
