The Republican Party, which has defined modern-day negative politics, was back at it again, bashing Barack Obama and the news media in an ugly display that rivaled the old days of Nixon-Agnew – or George W. Bush’s last convention where GOP operatives passed out “Purple Heart Band-Aids” to mock John Kerry’s war wounds.

I'm Persian Gulf Vet and a former Limbaugh Dittohead. I'm still a registered republican. Nothing I've seen from from the RNC convention has even come close to persuading me to vote for the McCain ticket. Do they really four days of hype and propaganda will erase the lies and waste of lives and money of the last eight years? Republicans are pro-life? Tell that to the thousand of soldiers and hundreds of thousands of civilians killed and wounded in Iraq! Sorry Fred. Sorry Rudy. Sorry John. Thank you for your service and sacrifice but I just can't do it.
Appealing and effective, Sarah Palin is deadly. She stole Obama's thunder last Friday, replacing that day's post-speech news bump with the announcement of her candidacy. In contrast, her speech last night dominates much of today's news. Hidden more deeply from public view, however, are the religious beliefs that drive her. Her sarcasm with a smile is devastatingly effective. Not backing down, she goes in for the kill. It is the quality of an adroit cult member (clean, nice looking, wholesome appearance, smart, with an ambition focused by perceived marching orders from god) that scares me the most: smiling, Sarah could gut you with a knife while saying that you will be better off because you are going to go to heaven when she's done. Doing you a favor, she implements her belief in god's plan for man. From Palin's persepctive, as against God's Will, the gutee's position can only be meaningless, irrelevant. Even though Obama's pastor has been big game, the media is unlikely to give equal treatment to Palin by confronting her with her religious beliefs. To forego exploration of Palin's religious pedigree is inappropriate. It would deprive the public of vital information regarding her values and decision-making process. Without providing the accurate context for Sarah Palin's smilingly relentless aggression, it is easy to mistake her plucky demeanor and smooth presentation as that of a champion instead of the western jihadist she appears to be. Palin may be a soldier of god, but with the devil's agenda. If that's the case, as with all unbelievers, god's champion will make us chumps.
I'm still confused after hearing McCain's war story so many times. How was it that he managed to prevent the Vietnamese from releasing him from prison? If they wanted to release him for their propaganda purposes, then they would have whether he protested or not. If they wanted to release him in exchange for some consession on the part of the US, then the US must have refused the deal. What was that deal? - and who made the decision to refuse it?
Great post,
except that I would correct that from
"crossed over to a post-rational society"
to
"regressed to a pre-rational society",
which includes an important understanding about the directionality and levels of evolution.
