Reader: A Christmas Story for Truth

By Judith C. Berry
December 24, 2009

The Christmas story was indeed a wonderful story to me for many years. However, when I found out it was just a made-up story, like “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” or “Pinocchio,” I was crushed. AND, that is what it is - a made-up story.

Read on.

Dear Judith,
There is a God. He, or she, lives in the hearts of all children who believe. There is a Pinnocchio, and Snow White. They, and all the invisible friends of six year old girls and boys are real. It's just that as your brain gets older it begins to separate imagination from reality.
This happens if the people you love and respect have also "grown up". Growing up is not an easy thing to do because of all the emotional ties we have to ignorant but well meaning parents, relatives and friends, all of whom wish to keep their fantasy world with them for comfort
You are almost there. One day you will stop believing in the God you invented, and begin believing in yourself.
Do not despair. Many have reached adulthood later in life and have enjoyed the thrill if independence.
