Bush Boasts of Waterboard Order

By Ray McGovern
November 7, 2010

Former President George W. Bush continues to be beyond shame. Those favored with an advance copy of Bush’s memoir, Decision Points, say it paints a picture of a totally unapologetic Bush bragging, for example, about authorizing the CIA to waterboard 9/11 “mastermind,” Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Read on.

It was reported that the CIA waterboarded KSM 183 times, and did the same 83 times to Abu Zubudayah.

How much actionable intelligence, was expected after the first 5 tortures? After the first 25, 50 or 100? The man must have been been quite lucid after 175 water torture sessions for the CIA to insist on the last 8.

Let's be serious. People are not water tortured that many times in order to gain information. That's done to eliminate information.

"Waterboarding is merely something that a bunch of liberals associate with torture."

I repeat: "Waterboarding is merely something that a bunch of liberals associate with torture."

Repeat: "Waterboarding is merely something that a bunch of liberals associate with torture."

It's true!!! Waterboarding is just some "thing".

Ray, a great article as usual. I hope you'll someday appear on the Daily show or Colbert.

Asian companies are a lot smarter than the CIA. There is only one proven enhanced interrogation technique: beer! Asians would not negotiate if the other party is not pissed drunk. It's surprising how much people are willing to talk after finishing a keg or two.

What I don't understand is why GWB cannot simply be brought up on charges. Whatever one thinks about the merits of waterboarding or other "enhanced interrogation techniques", the fact is, these are crimes. It doesn't matter whether you think that terrorists deserve this sort of treatment, the fact is, these acts are prohibited under international and federal law. Look up the Torture Act, look up the Geneva Conventions.. why are these laws unenforced? Simply because Bush is an ex-president?

Where does it end? If Bush were to admit to personally engaging in rape and murder, would we also simply shrug our shoulders and move on to the next story? Where the hell is law enforcement? This does not even require a mass movement, a petition drive or anything like that. All that is required is for law enforcement officers to place Bush under arrest and for a prosecutor to prosecute the man.

He has admitted to committing a federal crime, and he belongs in jail.

What more can we, the American People, do to see to it that GWB and all others involved in these war crimes, face trial for their admitted offences?
I had sincerely hoped, and strongly believed, that President Obama would follow through on his oath of office. Some one, or some thing, seems to be blocking that move. Scary, huh?
Though Bush may be able to self justify his choices while in office, I can not, nor will not forget, nor will I ever stop fighting to see that he face trial.

Great article, well thought out and researched, therefore irrefutable and deserves wider reach. Thanks!

McGovern's point is well made here. That Bush would publish a litany of lies is unconscionable. George W. Bush is a pathetically stupid man. That he holds University degrees only means they were bought and paid for, most likely by "Poppy." These people weren't smart enough to keep sensitive data off the airwaves, or out of the ears of reporters standing right next to them. But As MR. McGovern correctly stated, we let him do it. I cannot speak for Mr. McGovern, but the time was certainly then to have, as prescribed by the Declaration of Independence, dissolved the government and held them for trial. ALL OF THEM. If we are too cowardly to do this, then we deserve NOTHING that comes with democracy.
