Evidence Emerges that Tony Blair Lied About WMD

The Independent is reporting today that the British government's "case for going to war in Iraq has been torn apart by the publication of previously suppressed evidence that Tony Blair lied over Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction."

A devastating attack on Mr Blair's justification for military action by Carne Ross, Britain's key negotiator at the UN, has been kept under wraps until now because he was threatened with being charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act.

In the testimony revealed today Mr Ross, 40, who helped negotiate several UN security resolutions on Iraq, makes it clear that Mr Blair must have known Saddam Hussein possessed no weapons of mass destruction. He said that during his posting to the UN, "at no time did HMG [Her Majesty's Government] assess that Iraq's WMD (or any other capability) posed a threat to the UK or its interests."

So how much more evidence does anyone really need?

This issue is not about evidence anymore. The question is only of keeping up pressure to oust the lying politicians (Blair & Bush) and to fend off all distractions from that eminently reasonable cause.

The US/UK-coalition is supposedly one made up of the world's leading democracies. And they were caught - even before the act - attacking an innocent country just because they didn't like its leader (and wanted better control of its oil). That’s about as undemocratic as it can get. The attack was staunchly, clearly, overtly against the will of the people – all over the world.

With a precedent like that, all moral defences are off. No more hoping other countries won't attack these "democracies" if it suits those other countries and they believe themselves strong enough. Only sheer military might now defends the USA and UK - not reasonableness. That's a very scary thought.

It's for the people of these countries to rectify that, hold the war-criminal leaders responsible, pay amends and apologize to the world.

Then we can get on with fighting the real threats - from climate-warming. That means the real threats are from ourselves, all of us, and our everyday consumption. The real threats to everyone on earth is particularly from us in the countries sanctimoniously attacking Iraq.

Fight back with clarity of mind. Stay the course. Save our souls from our selves.
