Shame on the Washington Post, Again

By Robert Parry
February 19, 2007

Just days before the perjury/obstruction trial of former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby goes to the jury, the Washington Post’s Outlook section published a bizarre front-page article by right-wing legal expert Victoria Toensing suggesting that the prosecutor and one of the chief victims in the case should be put on trial.

Beyond the absurdity – and dishonesty – of Toensing’s arguments, the Post illustrated the article with fabricated “mug shots” of U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, an Iraq War critic whose undercover CIA wife, Valerie Plame, was outed by the Bush administration.

Read on.

But no shame on you;-) Thanks for taking them to task-of course having the truth on your side helps.

I know I'm not the only one sick of the WaPo's lazy, shilling for war and the neocons who own them, reporting style.

WaPo will become as irrelevant to main media as The National Enquirer-have they ever told the truth?

Thanks to Robert Parry for so incisively parsing Toensing's terrible article. It shows, once again, that the real "War Against Terror" is the ongoing war against the established media (this time the Washington Post) for manipulating truth and trying to get away with dirty tricks. The Post is mostly propaganda for the Bush Administration and an intelligent reader seeking enlightenment would do well to avoid it like poison.

I'll never forgive the Post or Dana Milbank for having sneered at John Conyers' valiant efforts, as minority ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, to get a decent hearing on the Downing Street Memo which exposed the "fixing" of intelligence and facts leading up to the invasion of Iraq.

I would say Mr. Parry's surgical eviseration of Ms. Toensing's mendacities--his autopsy, if you will, of her integrity--can lead us to but one conclusion: this is far more and far worse than mere "lazy shilling," and constitutes ACTIVE, VIGOROUS SHILLING for this administration and its criminal war. That the Washington Post would publish such a meretricious article at all, much less on the eve of a jury convening to render a verdict on Mr. Libby for his slender role in the war crimes of this psychopathic administration, is an appalling admission by them that they have abdicated the role of serving the public or even in simply reporting the known facts.

Well, the discerning should take this as a sort of good news...they need no longer bother with reading the Washington Post at all, as it can no longer be counted on for its veracity. Or, the Post can now be examined daily for the number and degree of lies it prints, as an object lesson in how America's "free market" (sic) has produced its own PRAVDA on the Potomac.
