Why McCain May Well Win

By Robert Parry
August 6, 2008

It might seem unlikely that the United States would elect John McCain to succeed George W. Bush when that would ensure continuation of many unpopular Bush policies: an ill-defined war with the Muslim world, right-wing consolidation of the U.S. Supreme Court, a drill-oriented energy strategy, tax cuts creating massive federal deficits, etc., etc.

But there are reasons – beyond understandable concerns about Barack Obama’s limited experience – that make a McCain victory possible, indeed maybe probable.

Read on.

The MSM may very well be up to no good re: MCcain vs. Obama. However as far as NBC News is concerned, Williams and Brokaw are known right-wing head cases, while Matthews and Olberman tell it like it is. Dana Milbank from WaPo didn't last long on Olberman's 'Countdown' after his disgusting, adolescent edit of Obama's comment about America.

Screw the MSM...only mental midgets pay any attention to them now anyway.

I wish you were right, John Hawk, but it's not that simple. This stuff is out there, and many people are only too willing to believe that Obama is an arrogant elitist. How else can they reconcile how a black man got to be in such a position with their long-held prejudices? In any rational world, Obama would win this race in a walk. So much is at stake, but our msm are living in some kind of bubble, with McCain.

The other reason McCain might, well, not exactly win, but "steal" the next election is because of the massive voter suppression going on since 2000 and continuing right now at a mad pace against African Americans and Latinos in swing states. Are we ready for civil disobedience Nov. 5?

Mr. Parry, blame the media. Blame anyone but Obama. But, he's tanking because he has disappointed too many people -- he was an agent of change and hope before he nabbed the nomination, then he flipped. HE DID!

He's not doing well because people are tired of him. He has no sense of humor. He's humor-challenged. He's a scold. He's arrogant. He's a lot of things, some imagined, some real.

But, the reality is he's been campaigning for two years now and he's no longer fresh. He's already shown that he's a typical, say-anything cynical politician. He surrenders without a fight. He's a capitulator. No! He "compromises" at the drop of a hat.

Stop already with blaming the media! Americans are smarter than that. It's the candidate! He's worn out his welcome.

You guys who kiss his ass aren't doing him any favors. Focus your anger and frustration on OBAMA -- then he might get some traction.

Gawd. Help him out. Stop givin him a pass on all his triangulating and compromising.

It is very sad that the corporate media (MSM) have so much power in our country! I do not think they are a very thoughtful or intelligent group, and they most certainly do not do their homework. They are always looking for the clever quip, or the telling wisecrack--and always dismiss the substance of a story without even saying they are not able to give the full story--which would help alot! Even Jim Leher gives the White House talking points as facts, not opinions, in his nightly newshour. And Charles Gibson is over the top! Not a smart guy!!! I have never thought that Brian Williams was much more than a pretty face, but Tom Brokaw truly disappoints. Having read his book on "The Greatest Generation," however, I can see what a shallow yahoo he really is!

Let's get Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow to do a debate! Now that would be interesting!!!!!!

McCain may well win because Repubs vote for Repubs all the time and some Dems vote for some Dems some of the time.

It's just that simple.

Mr. Parry:
You have it wrong. If MCcane wins it will be because the Republicans have disenfranchised more than six million voters to date by removing ethnic groups, the elderly, Jews and other Democrats from the voter lists. How bad must voter fraud get until you stop remaining silent on the subject! What's your hidden motive? Stealing the 2000 and 2004 elections is enough. Media silence won't cut it.

They're living in a bubble of the wealthy elite neo-liberal right-wing WASP, conservative Catholic, and neo-con Jewish media mavens (more male than female), who want to keep things nice and cozy, so they won't have their taxes raised, nor their privileges, luxe lifestyles, nor power nor chummy self-appointed status questioned.

More precisely, Whites have been victims of racist policies and laws enacted against their interests. The real crime has been the Republicans have done NOTHING to remove these laws, while exploiting the legitimate grievances.

Only a new crisis on the order of 9/11 or another stolen election might keep Obama from winning.

McCain is a pathetic and ineffectual fool who the establishment media needs to apologize for just to squeeze as many pennies it can from the charade of an election race.

"See?" they will tell us when the count comes in:

"The system works! We are fair and balanced! Democracy is slow but triumphs! God bless America!"

No, Mr. Parry, McCain cannot win. The Powers That Be have found the man they need.
