Like U.S. President Barack Obama, Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes won on a platform of “hope and change,” but he has since discovered that hard economic times and old political divisions can make accomplishing new policies difficult.

Mr. Funes like Mr. Obama, are both facing the realities of power.The civil war in El Salvador didn't change the status quo of the elites who hold the economical and political power. Therefore, is fairly to say that things remain the same. And as Monsignor Gregorio Rosa Chavez said the other day : The causes that led to the civil war are still persistent everywhere in El Salvador's society.
