Are the Clintons Playing Joe McCarthy?

By Robert Parry
April 18, 2008

In the Army-McCarthy hearings of 1954, with Sen. Joe McCarthy near the peak of his guilt-by-association bullying, he famously attacked the patriotism of a young Boston lawyer who worked for Joseph Welch, the Army’s chief legal representative.

“Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” Welch responded. “Have you left no sense of decency?”

I don't know that it's the Clintons (or even that ABC and other mainstream media favors Clinton.)

It's a general apathy toward anything that is a real issue. The debate the other night illustrated one important point: That gossip takes precedent over substance.

It doesn't bode well for our state of politics and elections that non-issues are deemed "newsworthy" and real issues (economics, war, peace, trade) are relegated to afterthoughts.

Eisenhower warned of the military-industrial-complex.

A tremendous advantage for lobbyists, under President Bush, is that when he gave them something he shouldn't have, or was browbeat into doing so, Bush not the lobbyists got most of the blame when things went wrong.

Under McCain the same thing will be true, people will get mad at him if all hell breaks loose under his term.

But with Hillary, people will instead, if there is lingering war with Muslims, get furious at Jews and at Halliburton.

So Hillary might stop Obama, but she won't be President because she won't be able to deliver much to lobbyists without they, not her, getting the blame.

They may not actually be planning for a McCain Presidency but before election day, they will know that their goose will be gored if Hillary messes up during a term in the White House

"...treat an attack on Israel as if it was an attack on the United States?" WHY? Israel is NOT the United States.
Why would Hillary commit our troops to a never-ending war in order to protect Israel? What is Israel doing for the US? Certainly they are supposed to be an ally, but is this enough to commit to war for thousands of centuries to come?

Mr. Parry, you have gone off the deep end. Seriously. Your candidate bombed big time Wednesday night because he actually had to answer questions that would surely be brought up in the GE, like it or not. But somehow this is all the Clintons' fault.

Shame on you. Perhaps you shouldn't have been so readily cheerleading Obama until you found out more information about him.

Mr. Parry, you are sinking into the abyss.

Your loaded question, "Are the Clintons playing Joe McCarthy" is really intended as a statement of fact, but you not-so-cleverly pose it as a question. In fact, your LOADED question is meant to imply that the Clintons are the same as Joe McCarthy.

Posing loaded questions does work to one's advantage in debate, though it is of dubious value in reporting facts.

Shame on you. Really. I hope your sons rescue you from defiling your legacy of past exemplary journalistic performance before it's too late.

Interesting Hillary supporters comments in here. Just another demonstration of non thinking prejudice far out-weighing what is in our national best interest. We have seen the enemy and they are the corporate leeches, the bottom liners, the pond scum. The Clintons are corporate shills and we will pay a big price if they gain the whitehouse again.
As to Roberts question, are the clintons playing mccarthy, YES, disgusting display of Scorched earth campaign. If HRC and insane McCain are the two candidates in Nov. just throw in the towel, there will be no winner, we are all losers!!!
