John McCain continues to talk about a U.S. “victory” in Iraq and Sarah Palin baits Barack Obama for not using the word “win” when he discusses the war. But the hard reality facing whoever becomes President is a looming strategic defeat.

Not once in your article do you have the decency to mention the millions of dead, traumatized or displaced Iraqis, nor the total destruction of their nation...
Until commentators and Americans alike come to terms with the results of their so-called exceptionalism, instead of simply seeing it as an entry on the debit side of the ledger, these predations on civilian populations will continue, as will America's reputation as a mindless bully.
