President Barack Obama and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke past each other in a recent exchange partly because both countries nurse historical grievances against the other and neither has fully acknowledged that mutual history dating back three decades.

I assumed that this was all about the US being able to show that it was "reaching out" to Iran when the false flag event that serves as the pretext for war takes place, but then I'm gullible.
You very conveniently left out the USA overthrow of the Democratically elected Iranian regime of then-President Mohammed Mossadegh in the early 1950s by the CIA, with the help of Kermit Roosevelt and others, which put Reza Pahlahvi (the so-called Shah of Iran) and his ilk in control of the country for the next 2 decades of slaughter of the Iranian people on one hand and the rape of its natural resources thru BP oil and the US oil industries... So their distrust and anger is RIGHTEOUS!
This post brings up so many images of what those who are either no longer in power, dead, or long forgotten have done in our name throughout our recent history. The blowback from their policies has become so much a part of our present-day problems with friend and foe alike that they will not be redeemed in my lifetime or in the lifetimes of my grandchildren.
