By Dennis Bernstein
July 18, 2010

This weekend, police killed another man at the same rail transit station in Oakland, California, where 22-year-old Oscar Grant was shot in the back last year, a case that resulted in violent clashes this month when the police officer responsible was convicted of only involuntary manslaughter.

Strange things are happening to both police forces in the USA and the UK. It is as if the powers that be are given them a green light to do ever more brutal actions against the people, to assure them that they should have no fear of retribution. To what ends is this being allowed?.

In the UK we have "The Independent Police Complaints Commission" (IPPC)it is anything but "Independent". The FEW cases where action is taken against the police, look as if they are only to reassure the public, that they are being safeguarded, it is really only for show. Many have renamed it "The Institute Protection of Crooked Coppers" (IPCC)...

I live in fear, for the future.

The Cops are one of the most powerful gangs in America, bigger and much more violent than any other street gang. They're not just protected by the law, they are the law.

Mayor Dellums is black, so for him to investigate The Cops would be suicide. And the racist ruling oligarchy uses The Cops gang as their enforcers--read Michelle Alexander's book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.

We're not talking about police here--police in a democratic society are a totally different kind of organization than a fascist Cops gang in a police state like ours. Police have to act responsibly while The Cops act with total impunity.

Dellums' call for calm is legitimate, however. Where there is civil dissent, The Cops have free rein to arrest thousands, brutalize hundreds, and kill dozens. It's better to let them have their fun picking off one person at a time here and there than to invite them to indulge in the sort of mass murder that they enjoy even more.

"A top Scotland Yard officer who was personally criticised for failings in the Jean Charles de Menezes shooting has been appointed to the leadership of the Independent Police Complaints Commission."...
