Five Years for Powell -- and VIPS

By Ray McGovern
February 5, 2008

It is a difficult anniversary to “celebrate” – Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity’s first publication, a same-day critique of Colin Powell’s Feb. 5, 2003, UN address – since what he said helped grease the skids for incalculable death and destruction in Iraq and brought shame on our country.

A handful of former CIA intelligence officers formed VIPS in January 2003, after we could no longer avoid concluding that our profession had been corrupted to “justify” what was, pure and simple, a war of aggression.

Colin Powell took any integrity he might have had and he deposited it in the trash can of history. Because of his popularity and presumed intelligence, his opinion helped many powerful people believe the need to invade Iraq. Colin Powell has a lot of blood on his hands

In reality Powell never had much integrity ,given his track record of invading countries, of mostly brown people .
His popularity over shadowed reality , because of his involvement in Iran/Contra ; invading Panama ; protecting one of the three of the most corrupt presidents Reagan and both Bush's in history, and besides if Henry Kissinger can get on TV any time he wants and have his butt kissed and Olie North can get his own TV show on Fox , it's not surprising Powell's real history is never exposed in the main stream media .
One of the main reasons the "Muslim world became outraged was the bases put in Saudi Arabia . Well , Powell lied when saying Saddam was massing troops on their border , the St. Petersburg Times proved via Satellite photos , Saddam had no plans to invade Saudi Arabia .
