How the CIA Handles the WPost

On Jan. 7, the Washington Post published a front-page lead article and an op-ed on the nomination of Leon Panetta as CIA director; both articles exaggerated the extent of opposition to the Panetta appointment and they demonstrated the weakness of mainstream media coverage of the intelligence community, particularly the Central Intelligence Agency.

Thanks for your insight into the WP article. Your commentary on the nominaton of Panetta and the negatively slanted WP article has helped me have a better understanding of the extent to which the media and the so often unnamed CIA source(s) can influence public perception of events. There is definitely a reason many in the CIA do not want Panetta to have the top job, and I believe it is because he will refuse to endorse the illegal activities that some members of the agency have been party to under the present administration.
