Finally, Israel Lobby Gets Challenged

By Lawrence Davidson
October 1, 2010

Two news articles have recently appeared, each discussing a different approach to overcoming the influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the pro-Israel lobby that presently has enough clout to substitute its own parochial interests for the U.S. national interest.

Read on.

AIPAC is only as influential as our political leaders allow them to be.

During the Johnson Administration, LBJ was convinced that the Jewish vote had saved his bacon, and that Jewish support of the war in Vietnam was crucial to keeping US support for the war.

Had Johnson realized that the Jewish vote was inconsequential and how the tide was turning against the war, he would never have given so much attention to the Jewish community.

As it was, LBJ had several informal, high level relationships where he would gladly receive input on behalf of Israel from American Jews. One even had a ranch that was adjoining his in Texas.

Today, some advocate that America tell Israel to "give back" conquered lands to achieve peace. These idiots completely forget that before the Six Day War, Egypt (much like Iran of today) was screaming that they were going to kill all the Jews and obliterate Israel.

The Israeli Defense Force, conquered those territories that they now hold. Had Johnson not intervened, Israel could have conquered Jordan, Egypt and Syria, back in 1967, and there would be far less "terrorism" in the world today.

America would not "give back" California and the Southwest, to Mexico, for the promise of peace with that gang of criminals, so hopefully you an see that taking a similar land for peace approach in Israel is also without merit.

BTW, Iran: You're NEXT!

davidson is another naive self hating Jew who extolls the virtues of the medievalist fundamentalist arab countries, whitewashing their virulent hatred of Israel.

To convince the Americans voters that Israel is and has been a liability to the US strategic interest in the ME is way beyond imagination. A judeo - christian nation, throwing the god's chosen people over the board, would be, just plain, unbelievable.

Good to see that there are sane voices (like Prof. Davidson) that can take a more measured look at the Mid-East situation than the militant/partisan commentors above.

The problem for J Street as well as for the so called self hating Jews is apparent from the above comments, which I'm assuming were all made by Jews. Most Jews are vehement about their support of Israel, right or wrong. They agree more with AIPAC than J Street, and Davidson and those who agree with him in the Jewish community are a tiny minority. Davidson, though, has a better handle on the non-Jewish American sentiment, which is shifting. Most people don't identify themselves as Judeo-Christians but either Christians or secular. Most Americans resent the current ruling elite where Jews have played leading roles both in this administration and the last. A not insignificant group of Americans feel duped and used; and they blame Israel and its supporters. Davidson has that right.

Coincidentally, Robert Parry hasn't been on Dave Emory's show in quite a while. Dave can't see through the mind f*** on this issue for a reason.

Wish AIPAC and the ADL would stop using the term "anti-Semitic."

Here's a common dictionary definition for Semitic:

Semitic |səˈmitik|
adjective
1 relating to or denoting a family of languages that includes Hebrew, Arabic, and Aramaic and certain ancient languages such as Phoenician and Akkadian, constituting the main subgroup of the Afro-Asiatic family.
2 of or relating to the peoples who speak these languages, esp. Hebrew and Arabic.

Now here's the same dictionaries definition of anti-Semitic:

anti-Semitism
noun
hostility to or prejudice against Jews.
DERIVATIVES
anti-Semite noun
anti-Semitic adjective

We obviously have a very big problem here.

Robert,

By the way, I sent an email to Dave and Carl (Spitefire list) a while back stating that I would not listen to his show again unless he began dealing with the Middle East issue more intelligently.

For starters: presenting the views of Norm Finkelstein, Robert Fisk, Schlomo Sand, Ilan Pappé, Lenni Brenner (even Mae Brussell) and related "post-Zionists."

I've been listening to the show off and on since the early 1980's.
