Iranian Students Ask About 1980

By Robert Parry
October 30, 2010

Eight days ago, a group of Iranian student activists asked me to respond to some questions about the October Surprise case, allegations that Ronald Reagan’s campaign in 1980 sabotaged President Jimmy Carter’s attempts to free 52 Americans then held hostage in Iran.

Read on.

Hamilton = Lee Hamilton I presume ??????????????????????????????????

"Washington Post columnist David Ignatius has become the latest voice of influence to sing the praises of former Rep. Lee Hamilton, who is almost universally hailed in U.S. power circles as a modern-day Wise Man, a Democratic centrist who shuns partisanship and puts love of country over politics.

But the sad truth is that Lee Hamilton has done great damage to the U.S. political process by elevating bipartisanship above a commitment to the truth. One reason why many Americans buy into baseless conspiracy theories today is that Hamilton failed to expose real conspiracies when he was in Congress."

Having had several close Iranian friends from Kansas University tortured and either driven from their country, by the Ayatollah's "revolutionary" regime, after they had returned and fought to overthrow the Shah. I found this interview very important in helping me understand the collusion of the religious fundamentalists in Iran with the conservative zealots in America. I finally after more than twenty years tracked down the fate of one of my buddies, only to find that he had been swept up in the mass arrests of Marxists in the early eighties. He and some of his relatives were all arrested, and held without public trials. I was and have been greatly saddened to find out that he was hanged with hundreds of others during the August 1985 mass executions in Evin prison and elsewhere. His relatives did find a way to be released, only to flee and be scattered across Europe as refugees. A prominent leader of the "Green Movement" who accused the current regime of vote rigging wrote the execution orders.

Bottom line Americans were traitors to their country & should have been brought to justice.

But in the USA the devil looks after his own.

From the essay:

''President Carter had begun to address the environmental and energy crises...''

That is true.

And yet:

''The Carter Doctrine was a policy proclaimed by President of the United States Jimmy Carter in his State of the Union Address on January 23, 1980, which stated that the United States would use military force if necessary to defend its national interests in the Persian Gulf region....[:]

'''Let our position be absolutely clear: An attempt by any outside force to gain control of the Persian Gulf region will be regarded as an assault on the vital interests of the United States of America, and such an assault will be repelled by any means necessary, including military force.'''

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carter_Doctrine

So Carter fit the Dems as lesser-evils, true to Dem form.

Bush carried out the Carter Doctrine and Obama continues it.

Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

I'm an American expat's kid, born and raised in the M.E., whose parents lived 1.5 miles from the US Embassy in Teheran in Nov. 1979. All Americans registered with the consulate (required of permanent residents) were informed the Thursday BEFORE the hostage-taking to keep away from the Embassy through Sunday because "an action was coming down". The U.S. government knew beforehand.

Most of the people taken were involved in covert operations, intelligence-gathering, or were military grunts; the only innocent was the headmaster of the international school in Pakistan, who was there by chance.

The Iran-Iraq War was conceived by Israel. The U.S. and Egypt went along--most likely Egypt was coerced--to weaken both Iran and Iraq. And it was tied into the "Iran-Contra" business which was only the tip of the iceberg. Israel had been involved in money laundering, extradicial assassination, etc. to a much, much greater degree for a long time before--I went to school with some of the players, unfortunately--and Ollie was actually brought down by the Israelis behind the scenes. As was Bill Clinton, BTW. It was the Israelis who broke the story about Monica Lewinsky to the press as they control a backdoor in the phone system not only in the entire U.S. but in the Oval Office. Remember that during the Shah's time, George Bush (Sr) was head of the CIA. The CIA transported SAVAK (Iran's secret police) to Tel Aviv to be trained by MOSSAD in their terror tactics. The connections here are multi-layered and go back into the '60s. (Actually, Israel was engaging in false flag terrorist operations in both Syria and Iraq from the early '50s--that's why so many Iraqi Jews moved en masse to Teheran in 1963, and why there was anti-American upheaval in Syria in 1956.)

YOU CANNOT SEPARATE ISRAEL FROM THE U.S. RELATIONSHIP TO IRAN, EITHER NOW OR IN THE PAST. Most Middle Easterners know this, which is why so many believe Israel was involved in 9/11, as I do.

Most of the Americans who investigated the Iran-Contra affair were either subsequently killed in questionable "accidents" or they were bought out by Israel through intimidation. Lee Hamilton avoided assassination by toeing the Israeli line. John Towers went down in a plane crash uncannily similar to Paul Wellstone's. (Wellstone was heading an inquiry into the Israeli-Palestinian issue at the time of his death, BTW, another factoid you didn't see reported in the press at the time; AIPAC had him in their sights, though without his untimely plane crash he would have easily defeated Norm Coleman, despite huge amounts of AIPAC money funneled into Coleman's campaign.)

The issue of Iran is ancillary to the question of Israel and U.S. support of that murderous, illegal non-nation. The cost of supporting Israel increases with each passing second. The current economic disaster in the U.S.--exported to the rest of the world because of their idiotic willingness to use the US dollar as a base currency--is due to our support of Israel. We engage in wars in Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, etc. for Israel. Anyone who says differently is either an ignorant chump or a liar.

The sanctions make Iran economically independent of the U.S. When Iran threatened to sell petrol in euros, the U.S. turned their guns directly on them because this would have resulted in the collapse of the U.S. economic system.

The ensuing wars have effected the same thing. Even though euros are not de rigeur for buying oil today, the U.S. economy has been weakened enough to topple in slow-mo.

Iran won.
