What just about drives me mad is that we supposedly don't have enough money to fund anything but war itself. After Ike's great speech identifying the military-industrial complex as leading to the destruction of our way of life, we have bogged down in war never-ending.
Thomas Merton was a great foe of war and suffered because of his writing against it. You might find this site about him interesting.

And war is never even mentioned during discussions of the supposed crippling debt, the economic crisis. It is never called upon to be the focal point of belt-tightening. It is sacred.

The illegal invasion of Iraq, the nearly one million murdered civilians, the joke of democracy, the crimes against humanity done by the United States of America, is sacred.

Being ignorant of one's own fascism is the true American religion.
