Very very simplistic summary. Please first before you criticize Israel, turn your attention to her Arabneighbours. Very peace loving, multiple-religious, multiple-cultural countries, in which Jews and Christians need not live.

Second, if you are a historian, you will know that in 1920 San Remo Italy, The Mandate for Palestine was set aside as a homeland for the Jewish People. This included present day Israel and Jordan. This was agreed to not only by Faisaland Chaim Weitzmann, acting on behalf of the Arabs and Jews respectively, but, also the Allied Powers, and in 1924, unanimously by 52 cow tries in the newly formed UN. The Arabs got the Mandate for Syria, and The Manmdate for Mesopotamia at the same time. Of course, the Mandate for Palestine was further divided between the Arabs (present day Jordan), and Israel from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. The Jews allowed Arabs to live in Israel, but Jordan forbid Jews from living there. In addition, you will see that the Arabs (there were no Palestinians then, it is a recent construct Arafat coined the term), So the Jews are not occupiers as is commonly thought of by the liberals left. Please refer to Howard Griefs work on "The Legal Borders and Foundations of Israel ", or Eli Hertz's work "This land is My Land" at mythsandfactsfacts.org.. You see the left leaning Jews have the right to criticize Israel, but they will only be adding their voices to a chorus of billions of Arabs, and Europeans. It is interesting to note that many of Israel's worst critics would not survive a day in most Muslim countries. Israel is fighting for it's survival against a world that has it's facts mixed up. As Jews, we don't have the luxury today of being too critical of ourselves. That's the job of those who seek our destruction. This is our history, and this is our destiny. Mr. Lieberman can smell this. Unfortunately, some in our family are so open minded that their brains are falling out, and they play into the hands of those whose mission it is to wipe us of the map and finish what Hitler started.

The fact Israel Likud government its turning on its own people has to do with the Jewish people inability to overcome its complex as a persecuted one, derived mostly from the Holocaust experience. Wich at the same time has been conveniently exploited by the Zionists as a pretex to oppress the other and justify its paranoid and agressive behavior against those it deems as enemies bent on destroying Israel.

"Turning Right" are you kidding us? Israel and the international community have been supporting an 'right wing' environments since its inception. Regardless of the interpretation of Balfour or the subsequent San Remo for that matter, the fact remains that the indigenous people suffered as a result of western imperialism.

davidson is worse than chomsky. If all Jews harkened their quisling line, there would be no Israel, and the population of Israel would be added to the list of the 6 million.

davidson, what would you do if you were bombarded by rockets every other day for weeks at a time?

If you were surrounded by enemies continually threatening your destruction?

If you were accused of despicable acts that were total fabrications?

If you lived in Israel?

Any time Israel defends itself, it is unfairly labeled as an aggressor. Yet the Jewish state faces threats every day from Hamas in the south, and the re-supplied Hezbollah in the north.

Hamas has already reached the Israeli population centers of Ashkelon and Ashod with its rockets. Hezbollahs'stockpile of weaponry is capable of reaching Tel Aviv and most of Israel.

Couple the above with the treat of Iranian missiles with a range of 1500-2000 miles that could easily wipe Israel off of the map, and the threat of Iran developing nuclear weapons.

If last week's Sunday NY Times story on the computer worm the US & Israelis developed which have destroyed 1/5 of Iran's centerfuges and set back their nuclear program 5 years, the whole world should kiss ours and Israel's ass, and kick yours....

Funny how the comments that support the repression by the right wing government of israel are all done anonymously...

Seems they live in a world with only two things absolute good and absolute evil. There is no such thing as any shade of gray, only israel is blameless and must be worshiped by all lest they be called blaspheming neo-nazis...
